EVENTS REQUIRING ADVANCE BOOKINGS
BLUE MOUNTAINS WEEKEND Fri 27 – Sun 29 OCTOBER
Repeat of a very successful weekend bushwalking or simply hanging out in the Blue Mountains. Accomm. at YHA twin share + en-suite is $164/room for 2 nights ($83/person). Kitchen facilities to prepare own breakfast (or purchase nearby). Bring lunch for Saturday’s longer walk. Car pool or catch train. Group dinner Friday & Saturday evenings, and Sunday lunch before return. Register interest now to ensure a reservation. Payment cheques to GRADS at our PO Box 225 Neutral Bay 2089, ASAP.
PITTWATER WEEKEND Fri 26 – Sun 28 NOVEMBER
An idyllic weekend at the YHA in Pittwater with bushwalking and kayaking activities (kayaks for hire). Accommodation is in bunk rooms for four and share bathrooms. Carry in all food and cook for ourselves. Cost is $27.50 a night. Payment by cheque to GRADS at PO Box 225 Neutral Bay 2089.
GRADS CHRISTMAS PARTY - SATURDAY 2 DECEMBER
Come along for the big event in the GRADS calendar and meet up with old friends in this wonderful venue overlooking the golf course. There will be no DJ this year so it will be easier for good conversation. Canapés to start and a buffet dinner should be very good. As in previous years, GRADS will partially subsidise members who book early so get your booking in now. Drinks at own cost from the bar.

GENERAL NOTICES
FLORA - The Art and Science of the Plant.
Come along to the annual exhibition by the Botanical Art Society of Australia will be on in the lovely setting of the heritage listed Palm House in the Botanic Gardens from Tuesday 17th until Sunday 29th October, from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm. Some of Australia's top Botanical artists will feature. Paintings and cards will be on sale. Botanical Art is becoming more popular here and overseas. Entry from Woolloomooloo Gate, Mrs Macquarie's Rd. is closest entry.

SOCIAL GOLF CLUB - Chatswood
The GRADS mid-week Golf Group play every second Tuesday. Be ready to tee off at 1.30pm. New players welcome but you should be able to hit at least 60 metres and play at a pace where people following are not delayed.

NSW ART GALLERY
Wednesday evenings: free admission, events ranging from art to film, music, concerts and talks. Food is available. Bus leaves Martin Place and returns every 15 minutes. You can obtain more detail at www.artafterhours.com.au Please call to arrange a meeting time for a particular evening.

Roseville
TRIVIA NIGHTS 7.30pm – 9.30pm
Parking at rear. Well-run, with general knowledge questions, and food available before or during Trivia. You must phone if interested, as it is not on every Thursday.

VAN TIEN TEMPLE VISIT - WOLLONGONG
Visit the largest Buddhist Temple in the Southern Hemisphere. It has won design & architectural awards and is a centre for Humanistic Buddhism. Meet at Central Station at 8.30 to catch 8.40 train, then share a taxi (approx. $25) to the Temple. Self guided tour. Vegetarian lunch ($8) available. Ring to register interest and for train times back.

2006 RUSSIAN FILM FESTIVAL - RUSSIAN RESURRECTION
“The Italian” (2005) at the Chauvel at Paddington Town Hall, Corner of Oxford & Oatley Streets. Can meet for coffee at the theatre, and/or eat dinner. (Six year-old Vanya, a Russian orphan, is supposed to be adopted by an Italian family, hence The Italian). The film has a wonderful sense of atmosphere. It is a real gem.

This will be a special memorial for Meg Basser, who died on 31 September after living with motor neurone disease for some time.
